Music in the Night dress available in-store.
Remember when you first started seeing mullet dresses everywhere? As an Australian resident it is highly likely that you have been burdened in the presence of a certain short at the front long at the back skirt that once suffocated in a rack of rainbow coloured brothers and sisters at a $5 chain-store. Talulah was it's Australian forefather. Yet because the uneven hemline dresses by the designer are so whimsical and pretty (and tower in superiority in comparisons to its imitations) you may forgive this chain-store for trying.
For years such dresses by TALULAH have been repeatedly photographed and posted in the blogosphere. They are effortlessly stunning- there's no doubt about it. Come a wedding, cocktail party or dress-up occasion this is a dress that you will also want to be photographed in. Or dance in, or kiss in the rain in, or walk through a strong gust of wind in so that you may feel like a goddess and admire your billowing silhouette in passing windows until it becomes so goddam theatrical, you pretend your a model strutting in front of a wind machine- just me?. It is certain to be an Australian designer classic for the next decade and even then; I guarantee you won't look back at photos and regret that dress you wore to your cousins wedding in the noughty tens.

The new Music in the Night dress by Talulah $350

Circa 2012 the best-selling novel The perks of being a wallflower became a film and a fashion statement. Floral jeans, shorts and their complimentary blazers were bang on trend with the matchy-matchy descendants of the book creating a following of flowery printed people resembling flowery printed wallpaper. Fast forward to the upcoming fall of 2013 and you will be wanting to grab a pair of athletique trousers. Such styles were seen on the catwalks of New York fashion week at innovative designer shows Alexander McQueen and Celine in silk fabrics with quirky sequin details. The wallflower trend evolved into 70's style lineum patterns at Prada. At MBFWA our Australian designers did much of the same and straight from the catwalk, our pick of pants in-store is the silk Talulah She Dances pant.

Although all athletique pants of the upcoming season have been created with an un-sweat pant like twist, be that the bright colour or fabricated details- this pair has won us over with its flirtatious pastel florals and bold black contrast (a go-to for flower lovers). They maintain a sophisticated femininity and subtle geometric allure which makes them a great all rounder; office, comfortable casual or courageously chic with a pointy toed stiletto for night-time adventures. To those who would rather stick with a skirt? we say frock off!

Athletique style trousers at Celine teamed with another season staple, the bomber jacket.

DON'T BE SHY TO TRY FASHION:
  • Teaming the pants with a pastel pink or purple top and adding a black blazer will tone down the cutesy factor.
  • Instead of tucking in a shirt or wearing a leotard, try a loose or tight-fitted crop and go the distance with a short necklace.
  • Your office is yelling for some colour! Wear these trousers with a button-up blouse and boyfriend style watch (check the time in the foyer to allow co-workers to admire your finesse).
  • For those hippy girls on the coast, these pants are HIGH WAISTED-sorry did I just yell that?. When pants come in at the waist it effectively gives your body more shape because it accentuates the smallest curve of your body. This look is much more fashionable, flattering and main-street toot worthy!
